The, Russian Merve expedition, after suffering terrible privations on the march from Tockikislar, arrived- at the- Village of" G-iok-tepe, where it is proprosed to await supplies of reinforcements. An enormous horde oj Turcomans attacked- them suddenly, and after, a desperate battle the Turcomans completelydefeated the Russians, who retired with enormous loss.
