MANCHESTER HIGHWAYS BOARD.
Thursday August 21. The adjourned monthly meeting of the Manchester Highway Board was held m the office on the above date. Present — Messrs. MacarLhur (m the chair), Bailey, and Bartholomew. Tbe minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Letter from Messrs. Grace, Pawson, & Co., asking permission to construct tramway across Makino and Junction Roads. — Eesolved, " That permission be granted on condition that the tramway be laid to the satisfaction of the Engineer." Letter from contractor for Junction Road, stating his inability to finish the contract, and asking for allowance for work done. — Eef erred to the Engineer to report. engineer's report. ; The Engineer's report, re eroction of bridge* and formation on North Eoad, was received and held over for future con3idera- | tipn. \ ' ' THE NEW BOARD. It was resolved — "That the term of office for which the present Board was 'elected having expired, this Board only holds office until a new Board can be legally * elected, the Temporary Powers Act, by w^hieb the Q-orernor oonld validate the elecI tipn of Wardgnj» otherwise informal, through 1 the. tKscrepancy between the highways and the rating, expired; on. the prorogation of Parliament last Session, and fresh legislation muat take place before a new Board : can be elected."ACCOUNTS.
