Gentlemen — I have already announced my intention of becoming a candidate for the honor of representing you m the Gene* ral Assembly, and as the dissolution of the present Parliament'is now a certainty, I hasten to place before yon briefly an expression ot my views. Ihe remission ot the duties on grain and timber I regard.as a grave mistake, and as 'a seri- i ous blow to those two most, important industries of the Colony which eniploy the largest amount of labor m propoii tion to the value of their products. | The gradual extension of the Public' | Works bcheme, by means of lurther I loans caretully expended iv the deveI lopmeut of our great natural resources, I is to my mind essential to the prosperity of the Colony, 1 shall'strenuously advocate the immediate commencement and vigorous prosecution of the West Coast Railway simultaneously from Wellington and Palmerston.
