Wards which *were m debt, should not incur 'further liability until that now owed*h»d bean cleared off. He heartily sympathised with the settlers m Fitzherbert, but a principle was involved, ' and he consequently felt constrained to move as an amendment— " That under existing eircurastancei no contracts be undertaken m any Ward' while it is m debt." Mr. M'Phhrsok second*! the amendment, which upon being put to the vote was supported by Messrs, Rocfcell, Farmer, sad M'Phersoh •" against, Messrs. Bruce, M'Kenajie, and M'Ewen. The writer trußtfd that the Board would consequently discontinue to charge him with the rates.— Clerk stated that he would make the necessary correotion, From Mr/Johri Mowleini asking to be allowed to erect a fence across the mad between his property »nd that belonging to the. Stewart, ("Kineral Government Engineer; also, as Mr. M'Ewen requested, prepared another tracing; of propesed road through Mr. M'Ewen's property at; Japkey town. -'-j ; ' NO. 5 WARD. The roadman has been engaged _i days during this month m clearing away slips on bridle-track and road to Fitaherbert.
