THE FEILDING CHRONICLE AND ADVERTISER. SATURDAY , AUGUST 16, 1879. LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.
Oxje Qtr adeiiie Assembly. — There was a special evening at Maysmor's Hall on Wednesday night, when.about thirty couples assembled, and enjoyed- a good long night's dancing, keeping it up with great spirit until nearly six o'clock m the morning. Psdestbianism;.— • lt was. expected that: a match between Tidswellj of : j?almerstoii, end Delaney, of Eeilding: — 9^ distances, for £50 inside— would oome off on. Saturday, as the former hero was up here a day or two ago to arrange preliminaries, but he returnedto Palmerston without having dohejso, The Election. — Mr. Halcombe. announces his intention of addressing the electors on Saturday evening, at 7 p.m., m the School -room. There will, no doubt, be a large muster, as increasing; interest is being manifested m the coming struggle owing to the fact— much to be deplored — that two gentlemen are anxious to become the representatives of the.; County m the .Northern interest, m opposition to Mr. W. JTohnsdpn, who is generally considered to represent more especially the interests of the South. IirPEOVEMENT.— Judging from the amount of traffic on the line for the past few days, the monthly returns should show well for the Wanganui-Manawatu Railway. On one day there passed through Feilding a train with twenty-four, goods-trucks for Foxton, and the return train from Feilding to Wanganui took eleven. This has a wholesome appearance about it. ENd6TJBACHN&. — The Flower of Feildine Lodge, 1.0.Q-.T., had the most successful meeting they have ever had on Thursday evening, when six new membero were admitted. We learn that a still larger numbetrwill be received into the lodge at its next meeting, and that by. the. time of- the ensuing moTJ.flily meeting it is expected that the lodge will be fully sixty strong. Is is pleasing to see G-ood Templarism. ex: panding m a place wliere its principles are calculated to achieve, such a large amount of good. Political. — A. little more interest ins. matters political has been manifested thit week, and the full report of the, meeting, afe Palmerston is awaited with anxiety. There have been rumors of^other candidates coming forward, and we believe that a requisition has been sent to Mr. James Wliisker, who has signified his intention of not opposing Mr. Johnston. Mr. A. M'Donald has also been spoken of, as well as Mr. Sanson, but whether either of these gentleman will come forward or not is a matter of uncertainty.
