AN APPEAL TO MR. HALCOMBE.

In view of the meetinjf? to talce place to-night, we extract the following very excellent advice tendered by the Feilding Guardian: — We hope that Mr. Haleombe will reconsider his decision, as it will he most suicidal policy for the north to divide its forces m presence' of; the enemy, and simply give the seat, which one northern candidate would be sure to secure, to Mr. Johnston or any other southern candidate who may come forward, for we may depend that the so«fcheun people will not follow the foolish exumple wo would thus set them and their votes. The diversion of tho main railway line from its present roufcp through Palmerston, Feilding, and Haleombe means a depreciation of property to the landholders of the north, who have bought; their land on the faith that the main line would continue to run m its present course, and we appeal to the well-known public spirit, and regard for the well-being of the County which characterises Mr. Ha-lcombh, to prevent so deplorable a result, and he may depend that any temporary saoriflce now made by him will not. be forgotten by the northern voters when the Manawatu, after tlie redistribution, returns, as we fully believe it will, two members to the House. By the -way, we may state that m the original, the name oE Mr. Suelson appeared, but as this evidently was a misprint, wo have made the necessary correction, and give the advice the publicity which it deserves:
