MANCHESTER HIGHWAYS BORARD.
Monday, July 14, 1879. The usual monthly meeting of the Manchester Highways Board was held m the office on .Monday afternoon 5 present — Wardens Halcombe (Chairman) Bailey, and Douglass. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. correspondence. The Chairman read the correspondence. ROAp TO TAONUI. v Letter from the Manawatu Highways Board, re road alongside the railway line to Taonui, sta ting that at the last meeting of that Board, their Engineer had baen instructed to visit the road, and report at ita next meeting. THE LATE ACCIDENT. The Chairman having drawn attention to the fact that the carcase of the horse hpvled into the. Makino, when the railway accident took place, still remained m th* stream, Inspector of Nuisance waa instructed to take the necessary step^ for its removal. NARROW TIRES. • The Chairman said that there was one subject which lie wished to brhig under the notice of the Board, namely, the resolution passed at their last meeting, fixing the load to be ' carried ' on narrow ■ tires. How wai that resolution to be carried out ? He thought the best plan would be to instruct the road men to see after the boards. A discussion of rather a controversial character ensued, and eventually, it was r»--solved. On the motion of Mr. Douglas — " That the workmen be authorised to. ascertain the weights of sush loads as seem to be over the regulation weight to be carried on narrow tires, and that the overseer be instructed .to make the necessary arrangements,'* drainage. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr. BARTHOLbNEW— " That! the Engineer be nstructed to report on the drainage of Manchester and Ferguson streets, with a view to the removal of the water m front of Mr. Roe's Hotel." NEW BRIDGE. ,- It waa resolved, on the motion of Mr* Bartholomew—" That the Engineer be instructed to report ou probable cost of erecting a bridge across the Makino on the north road, and making the approaches thereto : and the formation of the North Road." :.--■- --j ACCOUNTS. - I The following accounts were passed for payment:—-
