Wellington, Tuesday, 8 p.m. Mrs. Abraham Phillips was to-day arrested op a charge of wilfully setting fire, to her premises at Kaiwarra, and remanded for a week, bail being accepted. The Marine Hotel, Whataka, near Castle Point, has. beep burned down. It is believed to be insured m the South British for, £900 on the. house : £100 on the stables io the Union •, and £300 on the stock apd Surniture. The. Temperance Hotel, Featherston, formerly known as the Old Royal, has also been burned down. Insurances — Victoria, £400 ; Colonial, £200. Eddie and Jack, wine merchants, held a meeting of- their.' creditors, which resolved to carry them on. Sir George Gray aud Mr. Sheehap having, failed to get a definite reply from Tawhaio, haye left Kopua.
