The names selected as the three members will have to be in the hands of the Board on next Monday, so that there is very little time to be lost The 'list of nominations were not received by the chairman in the district until last Saturday, and consequently but one week had been allowed between that and the election. This, wccertainly. hold to bo a mistake, inasmuch as the various committees might gish to confer together to have a kind of reciprocity in theirvoting, andjce^tainly this cannot be done in the time allowed'."" With , regard to ■ the three gentlemen nominated from this county, if the choice ! had, to be given to one, it would be a hard matter to decide. When Mr. Halcombe put up before for the Board •we gave him our support, and the only matter which has since cropped up which i would make a change is that with*' re- ! ference to a proposed High School in the district*, We do not of course know whether Mr. Halcombe would be favorable to such a project at the present or not, but the general impression just now is that such^'would be • the -case, and we believe that fact will lose him many votes. Should 7 his opinions be different we feel that were they made known his chances of election would be considerably improved. As is well known we are no opponents to high schoqls, but we think the district ist not yet ripe en'ousrh for such an institution, and with the funds at command its establishment would only be at the expense of the elementary 'schools 'now in such a struggling condition. We scarcely hope to see the three Vrhich have, been nominated returned, but certainly an effort should be- made; to • have two elected. They are all good me'n, and perhaps if the committee were to confer together some mutual understanding? > might be arrived at, so as to. make the, return of whenever two would be elected, certain.
