London, Jan. 27. Owing to the almost complete stagnation m the coal und iron trades, the distress m manufacturing districts — and m Sheffield especially — is unparalleled. Gloomy accounts come from Manchester, Birmingham. Wigan, Wolverhauipton, Liverpool, Plymouth, Bristol. Dundee, and Glasgow of the state of the districts. Relief committees have been organised, but they are unable to cope with, the widespread calamity. The interest taken m the forthcoming Exhibition is yery great. Colonial topics are receiving much attention. Earl Beaconsfield, replying ton deputation from California, declared the execution of the Berlin Treaty ensured the pacification of Europe. The treaty was the instrument which ensured peace. Respecting Cyprus* he stated that every condition relative to its occupation would be fulfilled.
