THE HIGHWAY BOARD VALUATOR.

TO THB EDITOR. Sib,— ln the Masawatt Tin** of the tßth, ft letter appears nigned "J. T. Dairy mple," m which hi» asserts he had my approval m appointing Messrs. I received a circular signed by Mr. Dal» rymplo, dated the 18th December, draff* iiijr my attention to the fret that the Board had neglected to appoint a valuator, ami as the time waa very short, the roll having to be completed by. the 16th February, he had Mjuoh^pleasure m recommending Messrs. Hoe arid ' Keeling at a fee of £75. I at once replied, ".I have no objection to Me~H»r«. and KeelIng, but at the same time, allow me to suggest that a special inhering of the i Board shonld be held not later than the j 30th instant, to arrange the matter." I knew perfectly well that an extension of time wonld have to be asked for by i the Board, and certainly expected that [ the Chairman would act on my auggeiu tioh and call a special meetingrbut to my surprise, wh«>» m Palmerston on the 26th. .December, 1 wan informed that Mr. Dalrymple had appointed Messrs. Hot* and Keeling mkators. I told my informant that the Chairman had not to do anything of ,tJ«» kind. The reply was, " Oh, three of the Wardens are favorable, and .the Chairman** casting vote will carry it."
