Councillor .TBN.asBN said that before. the. ordinary business of the meeting should be proceeded, with, he would ask. parnyasjon, to move, the following resolution i— " That a cordinl vota of thanks. be. recorded on the m,iim e.i to. his Worship the Major, George M. Saelson, Esq., m acknowledgment o,f the eff;»ctiv3 manner m which he had, conducted the business uf the Borough, during the past Tear." In speaking to the. mot ion he knew that m bearing testimony to. the. very able manner m which hjs Worship had acquitted, himself of the. venv onerous duties, which had derolv*d upon him, he felt that he was expressing that sentiments of erer.v councillor present. The manner m which the posit ior of mayor had been filled was a credit to Mr. Snelson and source of satisfaction lo the Council an 4 the towu. Ccuncillar Bob could heartily/ endorse 'the utterances of Councillor Jenssan, and had much, pleasure, m, seconding tha *e3Olut ion. Tlie Tows Clree having then read th,e resolution, which was carried unanimously. Hi* Worship, said that it waa a source of giwtific-'itior. to him to fi;tid. th.at his endeavors for the advancement of tha town had found favor, with the Council. It had. been his constant study fro.m the time he had become a resident of tha district to forward its in'erejta and welfare. an.4 tn >* be na( * striven to do net only «noe tha inauguration of the Borough, but under the old Road Board, He trusted. tha,t during his last tenure of office he had done no.th.ing harsh, as it was his earnest desire to deal fairly and impartially with all, and, do justice to both ends of the town. His reason for. hating been again a candidate was that he wished to retain ofljk-e m order to give effect to these sell-reliant schemes and principles which had been initiated, but he might inform the Council that at the close ! of the ennuing year he would not again seek ye-electjan. There were many members of the Council who mi<;ht confidently aspire to the honor which had been «Qn-. ferred upon him., and who would fill th.a mayoral chair with dignity and credit to themselves a.nd adrantnge to the town. He again begsed to thank the Council for. the Battering record just passed of their, estimation and recognition of his services.
