THE FOXTON MEETING.
TO THE BDITOB. Sm, — In the report of the pablio. meeting held at Foxtori on the 11th, when Dr. Rockstrow said that an electorate could retiirn a man to the Council' or to the House of. Parliament but could not make him a gentleman, and after* warcl.s, when jV^r Lpudon took ezcep*' tion to these remarks, %he Doctor agaii* rushed to the stage to say that lie did nofc mean Mr London when he uted tha^ above words, and Mr Loudon said ha accepted the Doctor's apology and wasglad he had told the meeting that ha. (the Doctor) did not refer to him. This' fact seems to have been overlooked^ not that all this put together would justify the whole of the Doctor's re-" marks. Foxton people are jubilant with rumours of good new-. The HeraM says Thynne, Whyte., and Lidriell are about to resign their positions m connection with the Lowd- • Board. Tht- same Authority says Mr_ ff . Tjawson is about to leav» for England ; this, too, is a matter for thank.-* ' fulness. - Let us hope the next news^ we'll hear will he tlie removal of thaj Herald from Frxton nnrf the resijfna;* tioa. of Councillors Hakombo and 'Maq«
art.hur. f^Xhen, indeed, wo shall not pnly have reason to rejoice, but a day of public thanksgiving should be proclaimed throughout all Foxtbn. Surely setty5 etty tyranny and dissension will cine ay cease m this little, village, and things agiin assume a better aspect. It is also rumoured that London iswilling to take the voice of the whole jDounty, if need be, as to whether qr not they upheld Halcombe V resolution. Till next time, good-bye.— l am, &c, An Electob. Foxton Dec. 11, 1878.
