It is so very seldom that we can conscientiously say a Rood word for Wanganui, that it gives us unfeigned pleasure to be able to do so upon the present occasion. We allude to the action of the Wanganui Borough Council with regard to the reception of patients from this and other districts into the hospital. From the letter of the Town Clerk, published m another column, it will be seen that the Borough Council, into whose charge the Wanganui Hospital has been given, have agreed to receive patients from Palmerston, providing half the expenses are guaranteed. The sum set down is £1 Is per week to ordinary patients, so that patients forwarded thither would be received at a cost to this borough of half a guinea. Those terms we consider most liberal on the part of Wanganui, as it is virtually giving this borough an equal share— or at least a very large proportion — of the subsidy which it will receive from Government ; and thero can be little doubt the offer will be accepted by the Palraerston Council. Of course, we have our own hospital, but its character would bo ihora of the nature of a receiving place, where patients injured by av?cident could be accommodated until removal to Wanganui. The matter of dispowing of helpless and unprotected invalids is one which has been engaging the attention of both Borough and County Councillors for some time past, and we hate
little doubt it will prove a source of considerable pleasure to find the matter so satisfactorily disposed of.
