In New York State any inhabitant who is liable to highway tax, and who shall transplant by the side of such publio highway forest trees is allowed m abatement of his tax 1 dollar for every four trees set out. • A boot-closer, named Jones, and a co mpanion, while bathing m the Wey, at Godalming, made a wager as to which of them should remain under the water the longer. The second man kept down as long as he could, and then rose. Jones did not come up, and on two men diving for him he was found to be dead.
