We glean the following from a contemporary : — " In answer to a query by Mr Walter Johnston, as to whet her' Governmennt intend locating a clerk of the R.M. Court m Palmerston North, as desired by the residents, Mr Sheehan replied that it ia proposed that the Clerk of the Court at Foxton shall visit Palmerston twice a week." Can it be possible — after the tacit understanding which was given that a resident clerk should be appointed— that the Government will have the assurance to. break faith with the people of Palmerston ? ' We k iow that Mr Wabd lias been m communicai ion with the Department on the matter, and we certainly were led by that gentleman to believe that a clerk should be Appointed specially for Palmerston and Feilding. Either we have been led astray by the Resident Magistrate, or the Honorable John Shbbhan baa been guilty of anything bur. honorable conduct m refusing st the close of the Session what bod been promised for 90 long. From our knowledge of Mr Wabd ' we cannot believe that he has been" playing fast and loose with us, or that he would ,he the tool of a designing Minister. StiUthere are only two explanations of the matter, and we will bide our time to discover the correct one.
