FEILDING AS A MUNICIPALITY.
TO THE EDITO*. v= Sra,— l think it. mapv.be About twclv* months Ago that there: waa some talk m Feilding about getting the township brought Under tho . Municipal CorpoW-ibn Abt. and a public meeting was held at which the matter: was discussed prp, and cow, with the result, that the matter was left to stand' ovor nn'il the district obtained separation from tht? Maqawatu County, ■■>. :'as: it %*e
understood that a second attempt to get separation was to be made a few months After the meeting. But the separation movement seems to be dropped now for some reason or other which I" cannot understand m the Absence of Any report on the subject from tbe Separation Committee. Now, if the separation is entirely dropped, as I believe it to be, there is now not the same reason for Any party opposing the trectiou of Feilding into a municipality on the only ground that it was objected to last year. But I think it well that the matter should be ventilated m your columns, if you will kindly, open your columns for its" discussion, so that any objection that any party has to urge against it may be calmly and deliberately discussed At leisure, instead of being first urged at a public meeting be* fore a number whose feelings are up to a good high pitch of excitement At hearing objections that may be hew to them. It is a matter that should -be gone about calmly, as affecting all the people m the township ; and the people as a whole should be agreed about it, otherwise some ill-feeling will be sure to remain m sections of the burgesses when they come to the actual work of dividing the town into Wards and Administering the Affairs of tbe Town Council. As I hear that there is some, steps likely to betaken soon to get up a petition for the purEae, I venture to suggest that the' matter well deliberated first, so that everyone may know what it is they Are signing the petition for.— l Am, &c., Peoobisi.
