TO THB BPITOBV A Sib,— Would some, gentleman be kind enough to inform the settlers of Fitzherbert, through the medium of your «olumns r as to > the circumstances'; under which tha Grey Ministry, on its accession to office,, undertook to render us assistance m the matter of roads through our distriot. Mr Macandfew, m his Public Works statement,; announced the decision of his Gbvernmeni to give no help m the construction of roada and bridges, except where it; had been pro-, mised by having been plaoeid on the estimates last Session. By so doing, he baa rung the kheU of the hopes of many settler* on this. side, of the river m regard to one of the first necessities of settlement. However, though we can lay no claim to any vote specially set apart for us, if my memory sorres me truly, Mr Larnach, or some other membeir of the Ministry, on hi 3 accession ta office, made, a distinct promise that a cer» . tain sum should . be placed on the supplementary estimates for the purpose of opening up a main road through this districts Premises— whether written or un written^ should undoubtedly be kept, and as AParlia*. ment cannot sit much longer, I think it would be highly desirable that our member be requested to jog the memory of the-Go-vernment with regard to this unredeemed pledge.— l am, &c., . ;■• . _..'"■-.
