An excursion steamer, bound for London from Sheerness^was run down, and 550 persons are known to Lave perished. . , Tho British fleet will shortly b& withdrawn from the sea of Marmora. WELLINGTON, Friday. The Government received a telegram this afternoon re the recent murder of a jNTative woman Waipu, near Gisborne, A messenger has just come m from j Waipu, and reports that the persons have been arrested, and are m readiness to be handed over to tho police on arrival o£ the steamer. It is possible that two other prisoners will be charged with rape.
