MEETING AT TAONUI.
A meeting was held m the schoolroom, Taonui, on Monday evening, at ; seven o'clock, Mr Henry MeNeil m the chair. Mr Parker, by whom the meeting had been convened, 'explained that he hadfuken that step to 'give the residents of Taonui an opportunity of protesting against the erection of slaughterhouses on the Rangitikei linei as it was likely to create a great nuisance, particularly as there was no natural drainage. The, question "was discussed at some length, the feejingof those present being thoroughly m accord with the views of the convener,, and it was un nimously resol ved— " That this meeting considers it to be the duty of .the " Borough Council to erect abattoirs at some place within the Borough, for the use or the whole of the butchers, io .a place where there is water, so that it might be kept clean, as this meetings fully believes that an abattoir on the ftangitikei line, from the nature of the ground, would have a tendency to create disease." It was then proposed by Mr W. McDowall, seconded by Mr Parker—"That Mr McNeil .be asked to bring the . matter before the County Council at its next meeting, to inquire what steps can be taken to prevent the erection of abattoirs on the Hangitikei line, and find out' if the inhabitants haye '.any legal remedy to prevent their * erection ; and report to a meeting of the parties interested on a future occasion-" The motion was carried unanimously, and the meeting then separated.
