MEETING OF THE AWAHURI SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the above committee was held at the schoolhouse on last Saturday afternoon, the following members being present: Messrs H. Bennett (chair), McDonald,. Stewart, Knight, and Lucas. The Chairman opened the meeting by stating that he had received circulars from the Education Board, one announcing the resignation of Mr John Bryce of his position on the Board, and requesting the committee to transmit the name of a person qualified to fill such vacancy. After considerable discussion as to .the cause of Mr Bryace's resignation, and the shortness of. time given to consider the same, it was proposed by Mr McDonald and seconded by Mr Knight-- " That in the opinion of this committee* as Mr Bryce had been elected for the Wanganui Board, a member to fill the vacancy should be elected from that, place, as there has not been sufficient time allowed to communicate with the chairman of other committees, this committee deems it inexpedient to nominate any person to fill the vacancy.'* Carried. The Chairman then read . the following letter -. — " Wanganui, July 1, 1878— T0 the Chairman of the SchoolCommittee. r Awahuri.— Sir,— La ac~ cordance with the Inspector's report (copy sent) I am directed to, say that a., sum of £250 has been votedjfpr teacher* aresidence, and to request that you will ' at once forward plans, specification* 1 and estimates for the same.
