Seven or eight witnesses had been subpeeued to attend. BLENHEIM, Tuesday. A house was burned down at daybreak yesterday morning, at Mrkakapawa [Mahakipawa]. It was in the occupation of Miss Hope, who barely escaped in her nightdress. One child was burnt to death, and another is not expected to live.

DUNEDIN, Tuesday. The election resulted in a majority for Olliver of 111, the voting being — Olliver, 7G9; Beeves, 658, Olliver's party worked very hard, and scarcely an effort was made on the part of Reeves. ■
