BANKEBS: , X ■■ The Btink of New Zealand. SOLICITOBS: Messrs. Brandon & Sons. A competent G-eneral Manager will "be appointed. J. F. E. Weight, Secretary pro tern. The promoter, ia offering to the public this most valuable property of one square mile of land (640 acres)*, held under lease for twenty-one year's at Is" per ae>e 3>om the Native Lands Com missioned, Nelson, do so m the firm belief that this coalfield will be tbe source of a very large pari of-the supply for the whole of the colony. . The coal is belter kuown m Nelson than m any oi her part of New Zealand, as small traders have for many years past been m the habit of supplying that ma'-ket from -ibis* district to a limited eitent j and the coal js so well liked, that it is understood none other would be used for domestic purposes could a constant supply be depended on. The. promoters of this proposed company have at considerable expense, to prove beyond doubt the existence of an extensive coalfield, sunk a shaft 50ft., d'-iven on the coal* ou main level 53ft. ; put m a heading of 20ft., and have a chamber of 10ft. square. The seam of coal is about* sft. 6in. thick, with a tendency to increase. There is a 10-horse power engine on thespot, ropes,' gear, boat, buildings, &c., Ae.^. now working.under ODly these prospecting;, appliances, yet getting out from seven tp. ten tons of coal per day j while a main working shaft, is 'being put down. With very little addition to p«esent appliances, fully 100 tons per week of the coat could be raised. The promoters are fully assured that the coal has only to be placed m thevarious markets to be duly appreciated.: With that m view they have already several cargoes on their way to this port, so that the public can test the coal and judge for themselves. All householders, hotel-keepers, factors, and others are earnestly invited to take shares m this company, that promises such undoubted success. It is contemplated, immediately after the 'formation of the company, to purchase or have' built oneor more steam colliers suitable for the trade. The West Wanganui Inlet is said to be the best harbor on the West Coast; the bar is unchangeable, and at high water has 16ft.; at midtide, 14ft. ; and at low water not less than 7ft. Ingress and egre&s can be had at all times. The inlet covering a distance of some nine or ten miles m length, and from two to three miles m breadth, and being acted on by the sea only, it is never subject to floods j and considering its contiguity to all the centres of population, it is calculated that screw steam colliers will be enabled to make from five to six trips per month. The promoters reserve to themselves 1400 paid-up shares as their proportion - of this valuable coalfield and plant. .; Application for shares to be made to the Bank of New Zealand. Wellington, its various branches, and the offices of the Provisional Directory j or the Agents, Messsrs.
