OTAKI SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

Board's advertisement calling a meeting of the householders of Otaki to . elect a School Committee on the 24th inst., the" settlers assembled at the Courthouse,^ at 7 p.m., but owing to the wildness of the night only, a few householders mustered, and those few dhjee'ted to the meeting .being held m such an Antiquated building, which threatened to collapse under the violent gale then blowing; but, fortunately, no key Of the Courthouse bein# forthcoming, an adjournment was made to Mr Langley's accommodation house. . Mr. Hadfield was votedto the chair, and after reading the L advertisement ; calling the meeting, a letter from the Secretary of the Board, and several extracts from ' , the Education Act bearing v on 'the matters to be considered, called on the householders to nominate for the Committpe. Thirteen gentlemen being proposed, the ballot was taken, andA the seven highest on the list were found to be as follows \iXXx \ A. J. Hadfield, 15 : ; W. H. Sincoxi ,13 ; J. McWilliams, 11 j C. AL K^nocks, 2. - . , _fr Hadfield -thereupon proposed Mr Sincox to be" Chairman of the Qomf mittee, and it was seconded by M*r Knocks, and agreed; to by the Committee, which then, assisted by the other householders present, went, into the consideration of the most suitable boundaries for _the School District.: The general opinion seemed to bejthat ' 'tlie' Hbrbwhenua Biding being so thinly populated at present, the whole of its area should be embraced m the Otaki* School ; District, aiid the Committee having decided to submit . such , recommendation' for the approval of the Wanganui School Board, the .meeting dispersed.
