His Worship tho Mayor notifies that a meeting of the ratepayers will be held at the Public Hall, on next Wednesday evening- . ... ' The Eev. Mr. M'Williams will hold Divine Service m the English Church to-mor-row. The Sacrament of the Holy Communion will be administered^after the morning service. The coming week will usher m a new era for Palmerston, when a veritable cab will ply for hire m the streets of the town. The vehicle is notified to make constant journeys from one boundary of the town to the othery the rates charged being one shilling I or from either end to the Square for sixpence. No doubt the , arrangement will prove a boon to those who are pressed for time, or have to travel m wet weather. ' It is notified that the Tui will sail for Wellington this afternoon immediately after , the ,arrival of the noon train. The charge preferred against Thomas Nelson for a breach of the Licensing Ordinance, was fully heard at the Palmerston Court on Thursday, and dismissed. At the Licensing Court, Foxton, on Wednesday, a transfer of license was granted for the Fpxton Family Hotel, from Edward John Barhett, to Arthur Wellington Howe. The house, which at present is a most commodious one, possessing between twenty and thirty bedrooms, is to undergo several alterations at the hands of the new proprietor, who intends having a commercial room; and other conveniences for travellers; We notice that Mr Sothern, son of the celebrated actor whose name has been identified with the character of ."Lord Dundreary" m the old obuntry, will appear for two nights at the Forester's Hall, Palmerston. He is accompanied by a first class dramatic Company, amongst whom .are several well-known names, notably the_ Misses Stoneham aud Nye, and. Mr John" Howe. As the pieces selected, are of more than ordinary: merit a treat may be expected. On Monday " David Qtirriok," m which piece Mr Sofchern will take the title role, and " The Loan of a Lover " will be presented, and on Tuesday the programme will be Dion Bpucicault's welUknown drama of "The American Cousin," Mr Sothern appearing as "Lord Dundreary." A meeting of the settlers of Stoney* Creek. was held on Wednesday evening, m the Schoolroom, Mr. > Grammar occupying the chair. The object of the meeting was to take into consideration the advisability of petitioning the County Council to have the distriot separated from the Manchester, and joined to the Taonui Eiding. After lengthy discussion of the matter it was resolved that a petition should be drewn up praying that the boundaries be from Sectiou 84 m Special Settlement to Pohangiiia Eiver, so as to take m Section 464. Mr Snelson, one of the County Councillors for the Taonui Eiding, was also present at the meeting. , A Biood Feetii.izer.'
