With regard to the recent re ply. of the' Government to :the Waste Lands Board,; re the "necessity of falling bush m rplid! lines, and cutting drains m 'suryeyed blocks of bush laud previpus;to' being offered for sale, the Post ' • makes, the following very pertinent remarks*;— "One of the worst things that, can be done is to offer bush land, for; 1 sale.without first laying down the road lines and falling the^timber oh them. .; What is the use Of bush land to a man who, wants to live upon it, if there is no rpadjahd he cannot get to it? Not to. make; .the road s before offering the land fpr^sale, is to discourage the intending, bona fide settler from purchasing, so .that the land falls into the hands of the speculator, who can afford to wait till it 7is opened by a road and;then ; seuTit ;at'a v large advance. If the Government, want to. encourage, settlement and to obtain a proper price for bush land, they should always prepare it for sale /by;making the roads. It would be profitable for them to do so." We: have already uttered similar sentiments, and heartily endorse those of our contemporary, who puts the matter m a light clear I and uhmistakeable. I
