A CORRESPONDENCE.

['■. TQ THE EDITOE. :. •. ;.-, ■ ; Sn£— -A number of the readers of ■ the i'MANAWATU Timbs had fondly. Hoped that ; " Oixt Own Correspondents" from Palmersfcon North would certainly have had the common sense to«pr6flt by your yerybroad ; hints of late, ana the result would have been the truth sentry them to the various 'papers they represent. In reading the Wellmgton " Times " Correspondent's account 6f the inbrodnotion into our Amidst of the nnfortunate man now m the hospital, strangers will naturally conclude ( that a.?e a hardj.hearted lot of savages, who v cannot feel for our more unf or fctt nat r e r fellows. This/yrriter : states that " the* N po6r , man was -taken to .: the hospital, w.here there was neither bed rior anything m the place, and that consequently the poo? fellow must be m a wretched condition.'^ Those abatements are false, aad calculated to damage us as a comraunity. Constable kindly proa. ■ bed and beddingj and a female nurse was at once engaged to attend to the man. I rah safjly say that he has been at- . >ended m a most liberal, and cai*eful manner, and haa experienced treatment quite the reverse: to tliafc statoJ by the Cjito3poiident, whoever he n^ay ■ be: lam of opinion that it would be wise ou the part,; of any of "Our Own*' to imiku themselres acquainted with tacts before venturing to scad their twaddle to the; "Times" pv

elsewhere. I would like to know to what extent "ouiwown"ha3 assisted the poor man he so feelingly pities, and inform him that if he is charitable he has an opportunity put m his way of afc once helping an .unfortunate. It is a sad blow to the district thnt such correspondents cannot find more profitable employment for their talents (?), but if they will, persist m writing to papers, it is to be hoped they will produce something calculated to benefit, instead of "injuring us, and m all cases steer as near the truth as possible. — lam, &c. Edward Mabsh.
