MANCHESTER HIGHWAYS BOARD.
SATURDAY, 4th May, 1878 The usual monthly meeting of the Manchester Highways Board; was held at the E. and C. Aid Corporation Office, Feilding, on the above date. WABDENS PRESENT Messrs. Halcombe (in the chair), Linton, Bartholomew, Macarthur, and Bailey. LETTERS RECEIVED From Mr George Wheeler, requesting the Board to fall the bush on Kumanga Road.— Resolved thatrthere are no funds available for this work. Letter from Mr Swainson, requesting the Board to make a road to the siding on (the Feilding and Halcombe Railway line, known as Swainson's siding.— Resolved that the Engineer be instructed to ascertain the cost of proposedroad work, Resolved that the request .of Mr F. Thompson for an extension of time for one month, on his contract in Warwickstreet, be granted. TENDERS. For Cemetery Road. F. M. Leod—Bridges, £27 ; clearing, 2s per chain. Informal, tender being conditional. R. Bowler— -Erecting bridges, ; £20 ; clearing, 4s 6d per chain; Declined B. Poole— Erecting bridges, £27 10s ; clearing, 3s per; chain- Declined, as excessive. The Engineer was instructed to carry out the work at or under his estimate. The following tenders were received for diverting the creek, and building culvert near Mr Corkery's residence :— R. Bowler, £15; accepted. B, Poole £27 10; declined. ACCOUNTS PASSED Mr A. Douglas, £1 17s 6d ; T. W. K. ]&>ster, 17s ; Manawaxct Times, £3 12s 6d ; Barker and Humphries, £52 14s 9d; R. Bowler, £16 7s 6d; Barker and Humphries, £50 Is ; Jeffries Bros., £57; Manson and Bartholomew, 12s 7 ; Fairfield, Thompson, £33 ; P. Curreen, £7 4s; R. Andersen, £4- 10s; J. W. Blackmore £5 11; C. Bray, £28 4s; i Resolved t^at tenders be called for clearing, forming, and building bridges on Tanui road, from the present formation to the railway line. Resolved that the Engineer be instructed to call tenders for clearing and forming one mile of the Gorge to Feild-, ing road, commencing at the OtanaH end. '-... Resolved that bridge work, North Road, stand over for the present, as there are ik> funds available. Resolved that the account of the! Board be removed from the branch at Palmerston to the branch of Bank of Australasia, Feilding. Resolved that a rate of one shilling m the pound sterling on the annual value of properties within the Manchester Highways District, as shown m the valuation list^ is hereby made for the year ending 31st March 1879, the same to be payable on 6th May 1878, at the office of the Board. Resolved that the Board meet again no Saturday, Ist June. : y y
