THE KIWITEA BLOCK.
TO fS¥ EDITOB. Sib, — In your issue ot the 17th, I observe a letter signed " A Settler," which charges the Manawatu County Council with neglect of the road leading to the Kiwitea Block, more especially on that part near the site of the Township of Beaconsfield. Whatever the shortcomings of the Manawatu pounty Council may be, this accusation, at least, is an unjust one. The only County road in the Kiwitea Block is that known as the Kimbolton Road continuation, and on it a large expenditure is now being made by the County Council.' The road "Settler" complains of. is not under the jurisdiction of the County Council, but under that of the Manawatu Highway Board, and now that Kiwitea is constituted a separate ward of the Manawatu Highway District, the settlers there will have an opportunity, through their warden, of representing their wants to that Board. At its "last: meeting, A report on the state of the road in question was laid before; the Manawatu Highway Board by their Engineer, and : as the wKole of the revenue derived from the Kiwitea Block has beep set aside by the Board for expenditure solely within the block, I have no doubt that, as far as the funds will admit, their requirements will be attended to. Let me, however, suggest to "A Settler" that for the future, before making a charge of neglect against the Manawatu County Council; or any other looal body,: it: would Be i as well first to ascertain whether that charge is well founded, and if so, to be cayefiil afterwards to lay the blame on the right pboulders.^l am, <fcc.i D.
