A PLATFORM FOR TERACE END.
* TO; TH*£ EDITOR. . Slßj— -Mny'be the fact of my writing to will agaiiSi' call forth gtime of th*e ainiis-
ing tirades against the advancement of the Terrace End of this town, which a very limit ed n umher of your . correspondents are fomloF indulging m. especially a9 the object of this letter is to advocate tho oft-repeated necessity lora platform ut. this end of the •town — a necessity which the daily-increasing population, heve makes more and more imperative: It is within the recollection of most of your i eiders that a publio meeting was lieid some time since, and a petition sent to Wellington, on? the subjecti The Post Office authorities have recognised the increased und increasing requirements of this end of the town ; then why should not the Railway? I can instance many cases of real hardship that have come under my notice, and loud are the complaints of would-be passengers, when the train leaves the Square station and passes them long before they have time to reach the timber platform at the crossing, which causes them to wait untii the train is due again to take the roadi Many bf the settlers here are working men who are employed up and down the line— also a large number at the saw mills— ahd only visit their homes from Saturday till Monday, and aYe deprived of at least one hour of that time by being taken to the Square station, and having to go there on Monday morning for fear of being left behind. It was only the pther day - that no less than eight- persons wfio re-, side at and beyond the Terrace End alighted at the Square station, and had the remainder of the distance to walk. I firmly believe that the majority of the passengers by railway are from this end of the town, arid surely they are entitled to some consideration, for which moreover they, are willing to pay. A piatf brm would cost but a trifle',' and I -/believe wouldLpay for itself very soon by passengers whb^ould willingly pay sixpence to the other end of the town, -und vice versa. And now that the Government have granted a building for an hospital, a platform opposite the Post Office would answer all purposes.- — I am, ic., ; A Settler.
