COMMERCIAL.

Foxtqn, March 8. Mr Thynne sold at his Yards, at Foxton, on Thursday last, a small lot of well-bred Romney Marsh ram hoggets at. exceedingly low prices, but being the first annual sale of' rams from the firm of Messrs Braithwaite & Kebbell, they were disposed of without reserve, so that the breed might be brought under the notice of the settlers, and do more than au^ht else to make the next year's sale a thorough success. It -seems strange that with sa many holders of small nocks this sale should have commanded such meagre support, as there is no qu^tion that Mr Braithwaite has established his name as a breeder of Romney Marsh rams all over the colony, shipping them both North and Sputh. Efis pure bjred r£\m,s have gained the prizes whenever shewn, and he obtained a, prize at the Philadelphia Exhibition for. his sample of wool. There is, howeyer, little doubt but that the sale was held too late m the season, i and this m,o.st probably will he remedied | next year. The ram hoggets sold were by a pure : bred ram out of selected well bred ewes, i and shewed the type hp,th m m.ake a,nd : wool. The purchasers are to, be ooni grat^a.te.d on their bargains. Samples of the fleeces are o,n yiew at the office of the Auctioneer, and they shew fineness of texture with length, strength, and lustre., Xh. e - sheep a,re better a,da t pte.dfbr;v^h&.rioh swamp l,ai^ds of the Manawatu than any other breed;, and they cross w,ell with the Merino. There :is no doubt that next year's sale will : prove the correctness of the above remarks.
