REGISTRATION. B'-rths. — The birth of every child mu^t be registered within 62 days, inclu ling day of birth ; after that time a child may bo registered upon making -a solemn declai*ation of the particulars and paying a fee of ss. M (Triages. — Marriages are to be solomnised with open doors, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., in the presence of two or more witnesses. Persons desirous of being married must in the first, instance give notice to the Registrar, and pay a fee of 2s 6d; he will then give them, a certificate (the fee for which is 20s) that they have complied with the requirements of the Act. If they prefer being married by the Registrar, instead of a clergyman or minister, his fee is 20s. Deaths— -The Registrar of the district must be informed of the event within 31 .days. He will then issue, a certificate of the same withoufcP:ee.~ Any person burying without a certificate is liable to a fine of £10. Registration of Electors.— -Persons claiming to be placed Upon the Electoral Roll must send in their claims to the Registration-Officer of the dis^ctjjbetween Ist January, and 31st of Marqh in each year. No claims can be received by the Registration Officer after the 31st Marcli.; -j " Registration of ' %i£l? JDeeds.-rrln all cases where parties are • purchasing, or agreeing, for the purchasing or leasing of land, it is. important they should first search; at the Deeds /Office for. ; mortgages, or other incumbrances which may affect tbe property ; for each search a fee of one shilling is charged. , v^ * Registration p/Dogs.-^-Ml dogs three months old or upwards, are required to be registered during the month of January in each year. Registration fee, ss. The owner has to provide a collar, with the owner's name thereon, to be worn by the dog so registered. The penalty for non-registration is not less than 20s, nor more than £5, and is recoverable in a summary manner. Occupiers of farms of not less than forty acres, situated in rural or suburban districts, are allowed to keep one sheep or cattle dog, on the payment of a fee of Is ; provided the dog be not a setter, pointer, retriever, or other sporting dog, payment for each of "which is ss, <■ VACCINATION. It is made compulsory upon every parent to take his child, within six months of its birth, to the Medical Officer appointed by, the, Government for the district, or to some qualified Medical Practitioner, to have the chilfl vaccinated, and op the eighth day following to take the child back again for inspection. For breach this law a fine not exceeding 40ir ijaay^be recovered before any Bench of Magistrates. The word ''parent 1 ' means father, mother, or other person' having .the care, nurture, or custody of the' child, ' ' POSTAL Post Cards are now issiied r 'at the Post Office, and sold in packets . of six cards for 6d. The stamped side of the card is for the addresa only. On the reverse side, any communication, whether of the nature of a letter or otherwise, may he printed or written. English postage stamps may be obtained by persons" desirous of sending a stamp or stamped envelope to their relatives or friends in the United King- . dom, in order to relieve them of the cost of the postage when sending replies. These stamps cannot be purchased in quantities, nor are they permitted to be used for the purpose of making remittances. Registration. — By the prepayment of a fee of sixpence in addition to the full postage, any letter, newspaper, bpok, or other racket, may be registered to any place in the Colony, Australia,- the United Kingdom* and certain Foreign countries. Unclaimed Letters.' — On the first' day of each month a list is exhibited at each. Post Office in the Colony of the addresses of all letters' received from places: beyond the Colony that have remained' unclaimed for three months at such Post Office, The £d postage stamp must not.be affixed to letters." A coach, leaves Palmerston for- Wanganui every Tuesday a.n,d Friday morning. MISCELLANEOUS., A guarantee for pa.ym.ent qf a debt jnust be in writing. It is said that green gorse on whin : well bruised makes very good, winter fodder for a horse. Native Game. — -It is enacted tha.t no native game shall be hunted, shot/ taken, or killed, except dxiring the months of April, May, Jnne,-and July.
