Chbistohuboh, January 5. The grain market is now m quite a stagnant condition, the few sales which do take place being of an entirely retail nature, and no improvement can now be expected before the new crop comes m. Advices from the country bear out our remarks made last week, the growing crops look very much better than might be* expected after the long continued drought, and m some districts the yield will be fully up to former years. In wheat, we have no sales to note this week, values being nominally without alteration on last quotations Although English advices are not favourable towards shipping, some heavy parcels of wheat have lately gone forward to make room for next season, the bulk being on ' consignment on traders' account. Oats are very firm, but m consequence of the high prices ruling, only a small business is being done. ' ~£ln barley, no transactions have "come under-our notice. Elour has apparently settled for the present at £14, millers' quotations being firm at this figure. Bran and sharps are, although m small supply, dull of sale at last week's prices. Butter is coming m more freely, sales being readily made at 7d to 7£d. . New cheese is also offering m large parcels, but buyers are not yet wishful to purchase. For prime quality 5d to s£d is asked. Hams and bacon meet with a ready sale at Bd.— " Canterbury Times." WEiiUNOTON, January 10. - Mr GK Thomas reports produce prices as follows :— Floor, £17 10s to £18 10s ; colonial, £14 to £15 ; oats, 4s 3d, scarce; bran, Is; wheat, 4s ; hams, 9fcd ; bacon, B£d ; new cheese, 7d ; new potatoes, 6s 6d per cwt; pollard, £6 10s per ton j maize, ss ; butter, fresh, 6d; salt, sd. Dunbdin, January 10. Mr. H. Driver reports :— Cannot quote any transactions m wheat, but prices are still unchanged. Oats still command a deal of notice, and the supply is very limited j really good, 3s. 6d. % feed, 3s. 3d. to 3s. 5d. ; milling, 3s. 6d. ; barley, no business, ■ January 11., Goldsborough and Co. telegraph from Melbourne, under yesterday's?, date, that they have sold during the week 4,000 bales of wool, at the following prices : — Gfreasy, up to Is. 3Jd. ; washed, Is. 7id. Auckland, January 11. BUOKIAND reports : — Fat cattle, 28s. to 30s. per lOOlbs. ; young ewes, 10s. to lls. ; aged 2s. 6d. j fat sheep, at last week's prices. Oamaetj, January 11. Business m the grain and breadstuffs market still exhibits a downward tendency, no transactions going foward. Wheat, 4s. for best ; oats 3s. to 3s. 3d. for feed, and 3s. 6d. for milling ; barley, unsaleable ; flour, £14 to 14 10s. f.0.b. ; oatmeal, £17 ; pearl barley, per ton, £20 ; pollard, £5 ss.*; bran, £3 ss. Marton, January 32. Messrs. Beckett .and Hammond report wholesale produce prices as under : — Oats, 55. ;" ditto, Canterbury, ss. 6d. to 65.; barley, ss. 6d. ; chick wheat, 6s. ; flour, £18 10s. to £20 f bran, Is. 3d. ; chaff, £5. There has been no alteration during the last week. All grains are scarce and m fair demand.
