retire 'from Ihe Cabinet m ord<T to assume the office of Chief Commissioner of Armed Constabulary, the "Post** says that, owing- to Colonel Movie's resignation as Chief Commissioner of; the Armed Constabulary, a difficulty .arises m performing certain official act* repuired to be done m conformity tolaw by the Commissioner. ' It has* therefore, been arranged that such duties previously devolving upon the Commissioner will now be added tothose of Minister for Defence for time being. Colonel Whitmore will, therefore, be gazetted Commissioner of Armed Constabulary, m addition to his present portfolio of Colonial Secretary, but will receive no salary or allowancein connection with the former office. This arrangement as to the Goxn~ missionership of Armed Constabulary will continue so long only as Colonel WMtmore remains a member of th* present Government. It is understood that there is no intention to revive theappointment lately held by Colonel Moule. In the second innings of the Otago> 22 against the • Australian Eleven, theOtago men all went out for 94, and onlydouble %ures were reached m four instances. Tlie highest score was 15 for Clarke.
