ACCLIMATIZATION SOCIETY MEETING.
The Acclimatization Society held its second meeting at; the Public, Hall on the 29th inst., at 2 o'clock p.m ; A. W. F. Halcombe, Esq:/ ■President of the Society, m the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed! Mr Halcombe, m his opening remarks, , stated that the principal object of that meeting was the election of a permanent committee to carry'on; the general business of the society: It was thought -some present that the appointment? ; of," ;th'e committee should be postponed until there, was a fuller meeting. After discussing the matter, it .was resolved to proceed with the election of the committee at this meeting. ■•'' ■' 7 '.'■ ■■■-' ' : '7:,7: It was proposed. Jby Mr Snelson and seconded by Mr "Macarthur '•' That the 'following names Tbe, -'entered, as those of a Committee with power to add to their number :— Messrs Dalrymple, McNeil, Snelson, Linton; Owen, Macarthur, Warburton, Dr. Skerman, Dr. Johnston, Halcombe, J. T.Stuart, Thynne, Gower 1 and Sanson." It was agreed that a number of other gentlemen throughout the district he written to .with a vie w to obtain, their consent to act as committeemen. Proposed by Mr Macarthur and seconded by Mr Linton " That Mr Snelson be elected Vice-priesiderit of the Society;" Carried.*^ -> Proposed by Mr Macarthur and seconded by Mr Owen "That Mr Linton be elected Treasurer to the society." . Carried. , , Proposed by Mr Owen and seconded by Dr. Skerman, " That the president,,, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and Dr Johnston be jappointed a Committee to draw up rules for this society and report at next ..meeting.'* , . '..-^ '.A .. r ,',,' The Secretary presented a;statement shewing the state of the finances as follows :— Amount subscribed for trout, ; £23 ls6d ; m bank, £3 ss; in hand, £2Bs ; ' total, £28 14s 6d; amount expended eh trout £26 3s, leaving balance of £2 lls6d. Against this sumappeared an account for printing and. other incidental expenses which left the society slightly m arrear, but on the other [handi it appeared that there was a considerable amount still unpaid by members. • The Secretary read a 4etter which stated that m a short time 1000 or 2000 salmon Hront would oe forwarded to the Manawatu River. Mr Halcombe read an offer from the Napier society to put into the Manawatu 30p0salmpn trout for the sunV of £30^ TMsvoffer he^accepted on his own responsibility and guaranteed payment of the amount. He was ih; favour of drawing "our supply of trout from Napier m place of Canterbury as risk lht'ransitwas sosmall; Recounts amounting *to £3719s 6d, were passed for payment. .
