HOKITIKA. i -."! ■ Saturday. Atoll was taken to-day re the proposed loan by the borough of ;£35,000. A resolution to borrow the amount was carried^ by a small majority. The loan is intended for the following purposes:— Water . supply, £16,000; drainage, £8000; beach protective works, £4000 ; roadways,' footways, and other public works,.£7ooo. The second day's racing was weILJ attended and the events were closely contested. Hurdle Race—Lunatic, 1. Westland Handicap—Maritana, I. Goldfieids Handicap—Native, 1.
