A correspondent of the "N. Z. Herald " writes from the country, complaining of the system of paying school teachers according to the average attendance of scholars. He says: — "I think thi6 unfair both to the .settlers and teachers m outlying districts. Teachers often have to trudge many miles through, rain, deep mud, unbridged creeks, &c.. Wet and wretched, they often meet but few scholars, and so are doomed to receive little pay. These gentlemen give all their time as well as others, with only the , difference of more discomfort. J. know several who are now feeling this very sorely."
