PARLIAMENTARY.
Satobday, Btk Decembbb. (^rom tiie Argids.) When the House met on Saturday evenjng there was a last wordy duel
between Sir George Grey and Major Atkinson, on the motion for committing the Appropriation Bills. The former spoke of the necessity for a redistribution of Parliamentary representation, and for a change m the incidence of taxation, &c, and said the Government would next session endeavour to remedy the defects m the existing systems, but his remarks were of a general character, and did not especially indicate any_ of the changes proposed.—. Major Atkinson then attacked Sir George Grey upon his administration when Governor of the colony, and went at some length into finance, to show that- there would be a. large deficit at -thejend of the, year.— Sir George Grey replied, and then the Appropriation Bill and Pubiic^orks and Immigration Appropriation Bill were committed, reported, and passed.— At 4.30 the House adjourned for an hour, that the Bills :inight pass Lthe, Upper House. It appeared, however, that the Upper House wished.' to indulge m a little sparring, and it was not until nine o'clock that the" bills^were returnecL— The Speaker, then made the usual announcement, and the House adjourned until Monday, the Premier laying on the table a lengthy correspondence between his Excellency and the Ministry upon the question of a dissolution^ > PBOEOOATIOIT OF PABIIAMENT. Monday. .' \Jgtrtiament was prorogued by commission this afternoon when the members of the House of Representatives being summoned to the Legislative Council Chamber, the Commissioners attended, and read the Vice-regal proclamation proroguing the General Assembly until 29th January, 1878.
