Messrs Macarthiir (m the chair), Bartholomew, Bailey, and Linton. ' .; minutes.' ■"• ; .' ': ; The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. COBBESPONDENCE. A circular letter was received from the Board of Education of the District of Wellington, applying for., exemption of rates f on. account; of school buildings. Resolved, That school^ buildings and grounds within the Manchester Highways District be exempted from payment of rates to this Board. A letter was received from the Manager of the Bank of Australasia, Palmerston, m reference to the rate of interest to be charged for ; overdraft. A letter was received from Mr J. C. Thomson, asking leave to erect a yeran-
dali six feet wide and nine feet high m. front of his store m Manchester street. Eesolved, That Mr Thomson be granted permission to; erect ; a verandah as requested, bat On condition that it shall be removed whenever the; Board may require. A letter was received from ; Mr William Anderson, tendering the resignation of his offices as Clerk, Bate Collector, and Inspector of Nuisances, and re--questing the Board to relieve him from those offices on the Ist March next. - Eesdlved, That Mr Anderson's resignation be accepted. . . '.->'/ Eesolved, That tenders be invited until the first Friday m February, 18?8, ■ from persons wilnng to- undertake the duties of Clerk; Bate Collector, and Inspector of Nuisances to the Board. Eesolved, That tenders be invited from persons willing to make a valuation of all the rateable property m the Manchester Highways District, as provided for by " The Bating Act, 1876." Besolved, That a meeting of ratepayers -of the -Manchester Highways District be held at the School-house on Saturday, the 15th inst., at 8 o'clock p.m.; for the purpose of considering the question of taking the necessary steps j to bring "The TRegulation of Local Elections Act, 1876," into operation m the district, and to consider the advisability of erecting Eeilding into a municipality, and that only ratepayers and owners of . property m the Highway District be invited to. attend. &&j±~ A petition was received. from-S^^^ B. Tremewan and others, reqiiP^g the Board to fell and clear a portion' of the Bunnythorpe Bpad. ' '■• ,'. Besolved, That tenders be called for felling and clearing 60 chains of the Bunnythorpe Boad. y A petition was received from Messrs Eobert' Lankshear and others, asking the Board fora road from Gillett's line, from; i somewhere about Mr Linton's house, to the road leading from Feilding to the, new bridge. Ordered to stand over till next meeting. ■■"..'
