Last Monday evening will long be re^ membered by those .who had the pleasure of visiting the . Foresters' Hall, .'where. a' large and attentive audience assembled to listen to ' the performance given by the* Foxton Choral Society, and followed up by the operetta, "Nicotina "; flayed by the Lydia Howarde Troupe. ■ The profits of the

evening were advertised to be handed over to the Cemetery Trust Fund, which no doubt had the effect of considerably increasing the number present. The performance commenced by the Choral Society singing "Away, away, the morning's freshly breaking," which received well merited applause, as indeed did all the other pieces, the Society v received a f ull • sbnre of that pleasing tribute throughout the evening Unfortunately the pressure of other matter upon our space prevents us from going through the programme, and descanting as we would like upon the particular merits of each, rendition. The whole of the programme was carried through m a very superior style, and much to the credit of both the performers and their conductor, Mr Beatty, who " may justly be proud of the choral band marshalled under his auspices. The Manawatu Dramatic Club should have assisted, as advertised, but for reasons explained by Dr Skerman they did not come upon the boards. The appearance of the Lydia Howarde Troupe was greeted with loud applause. The piece played was carried through m a masterly style. In it the actors had good scope for displaying to advantage their poVerf ul and highly cultivated voices. The applause that accompanied the performance of this piece was at times almost deafening. We think that as a community, we should feel grateful to all parties "who assisted at the entertainment. It was one of the most successful that has yet taken place m Palmerston, and its object was of a character calculated to awake m us a deep gratitude. We are glad to say that the cemetery fund is likely to be augmented by about ten pounds through the entertainment. In visiting -Palmerston the Foxton Choral Society have taken. aT step which may, perhaps, lead to a pleasant interchange of amateur talent between the two places;: This will be mutually beneficial,.and will' be promotive of that neighbourly good will which we trust will always exist. Barlow's celebrated Circus' is now m Palmerston and will perform m the Square this evening. The Company perform at Feildon Thursday, Sandon on Friday, Bulls on Saturday, and at Martonjdurihg the following week. . ■ We have received and' have* now on view at this office a. lithographed plan : of the township of Beaconsfield, which, township is to'bcsold m sections at- Wellington on the 30th inst. The plan is a nice size and exceedingly clear as to details A topographical chart is also - furnished oh the same ■ sheet sho.wing the position of the township m relation'to the other towns and the county generally. Altogether the plans are very complete and satisfactory. . v No Tbaveixeb on, Voyager, or resident of an unhealthy region should be without a supply „pf Udoipho Woi.?b's Schiedam Aeomatio Schnapps. It is thebest possible antidote to the effect of any poisonous element that may exist, iirtlie water or the air, a preventive and cure of : the sea sickness, af positive remedy, for : indigestionj a good restorative for the convalescent, ah excellent appetiser, an anodyne for the sleepless, a gentle and harmless diuretic, a constitutional invigorant, a cheering cordial for the despondent, and the only stimulant which can. be safely introduced into the sick room or for hospital purposes. .
