■-..■.',■• •' TO'THE Sic,—Having recently driven down the Gorge with a friend, and crossed the Lower Manawatu Perry, we found on arriving on this side thatthe punt could not be brought up so as'to allow the bviggy to be driven out without a violent sufficient to knock any occupants but of their seat, besides running the risk of doing considerable damage to vehicle, and harness; On my friend's return, I learn the getting on to the punt was even worse^—the hind wheels, owing to the suddenness <>£ fhe drop, were unable to follow the ones. The consequence was, one of tlie traces was broken; other parts of the harness gave way,-thus freeing the horse, the carriage gliding back into the water, but 'was Ultimately, with the assistance of the men, got;into the punt. My friend, being fortuna,tely. provided with a rope, was enabled to proceed on his fourrievi I feel assured, Mr Editor, that; it the attention; of the authorities was called to the matter* they would see that proper means were provided for obviating such contingencies for the future.
