The Manawatu Times. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 1877.

Compabitivelt few pepple know the real importance of the Kiwitea' district. At no distant date it will exert a great influence upon the whole of the Manawatu County, both commercially and politically. - The land is both good and cheap to a degree favorable to complete settlement, and settlement is now going on as rapidly as the land can be marked off. We are informed on good authority that- upwards of 5000 acres of bush have been felled m this district during the last winter. TWb fact may be taken as an indication of the rapidity with which settlement is proceeding. We would urge upon the powers that' be the necessity of pushing along the construction of a road m order to assist

this settlement and enable property owners to utilise the land as fast as possible. A good understanding might be arrived at between the Government and the various local governing bodies m the district, the result of which would be a united effort to' complete that main line from Feilding to the new settlement. Ift his were done the whole of the County , would be benefited by the facilities., given to settlement and the increase-ofy trade m the various townships, perhaps, especially m Foxton, the natural outlet by, water. It appears that some enterprising owner of land has laid off ajtoj^raship m the block and named it Richmond. The only objection to this name is that there is now more than one Richmond m New Zealand. The multiplication of names m this way leads to many postal errors and often results m serious loss to business men arid others. Some of the inhabitants of JEJajinerston could tell of many-d^f_ ancTibsses sustained throughinis township possessing 4 namesake m the South Island. The new Richmond is situated about 12 miles from Feilding and at the junction of the Feilding with the Kiwitea Block. We hope at a future time to give some interesting information about this new district. -
