He admitted having sold three barrels of beer for sixteen shillings. Prom the evidence it appeared that the defendant was living at,Zairakaw, close tp Douglas and Co.^ saw mills, and, that being of rather lazy habits, he thought he would try sly grog selling, but unfortunately for him the local policeman who was " circumventing round " discovered him in the act of selling beer to a very noisy crowd. v .

The, Magistrate in giving judgment, cautioned the defendant on the course he had." ?been \ pursuing, but said that owing; to the smallness of the amount he had. received for the .'large, amount of liqtior^sold -he would only fine him twenty pounds in ' each case* and costs amounting, to £5 15s 6d.
