We are sorry to learn, by telegram received last night, of the loss of the fine ship Avalanche with 99 souls on board. On Thursday night intelligence was brought to town, that a man was lying dead, about two miles from Palmerston on the Foxton line. It was supposed that he had fallen off his horse, while intoxicated, and got drowned m a pool of water. Late at ni<i !it a party with the policeman started j to bring the body into town. , The features, though smeared with mud, were recognised as those of a Swede ..named Holsori. The man had been seen m town through, the day, and was probably on his way home to Moutoa when he came by his end.j The pool m which he was said, to have been found waß not more than two or three inches m depth.
