Sailed — Tui for Foxton at o' p.m. • A deputation of clergy ar.J 'laiiv r headed by Archdeacon Stock, presented a petition to the Licensing Bench, piaving that no new publican's license* hi issued m the city. Tlie Resident Magistrate for a long time declined to receive the petition, but. as other two Justices considered it might ba received, the \ - tition was placed m the hands of tltC Clerk of the Court. It was sigued by 2,700 adults of the city. - The Inspector of Police incidentally mentioned there were 44- publichf usesin "Wellington, fewer m proportion topopulation than m any other- town ia New Zealand. , ".
