A meeting of the -above Board was held on Monday, the 3rd Sept., 1877. • MEMBERS PEEBENT. Messrs. McN«il, Dalrymple, "Farmer, Hammond, and McPherson. minutes. The minutes of the previous meeting were riad, and on the motion of Mr Dalrynij'le; seconded by .Mr Farmer, confiruiid. * , CORBESPONDEITCE. Letter from Provincial Auditor, requeriingihat a statement of the Board's ■ Amunts from March 31st, 1876, to April Ist, 1877, be fo. warded to his , iiSce^ for audit. The Secretary was instructed to forward the same. Letter from the Colonial Secretary, enquiring- the amount paid by the Board for making the valuation of the district under the > provisions of the Eating Act of 1^76. Letter from Mr Bryce, of Wanganni, requesting the Board to undertake the cl< aring of a road line m Kiwitea district. Resolved, That tenders' be called for the work as soon as pos<-iblp. Letter from Mr D. McEwen,' respecting culvert on ,the Karere Road. Letter from the Manager of > the Bank of Australasia, with offer, rcs'pec-, ting the Board's Account. Terms Accepted. , \ r Lefcter from Mr Evans, of Bulls, respecting payment of 'rates last year. The Secretary was 1 requested to forward particulars. ' ' Letter from Mr Adams, Foxton, re^ road clearing on line leading towards v. the Cemetery. ' The Inspector's Monthly Report was read and adopted. The Board appointed , Mr James Linton Returning officerforthe ' Election of Wardens^for the Manawatu Highways District, a J nd instructed him to take the necessary steps for the election of a Warden to represent the Otaki "^Tustrict at the Board: ' ' Mr Dawson, of Douglas and Co., waited upon -the meeting for the purpose of arranging A i or clearing and forming about six miles of road's running through the special settlement' at 'Carnarvon,' the Company again offering to bear one half of the cost of construction. It was agreed to accept the offer and proceed at once with the work. Tenders to be invited as soon as possible. • Mr W. Simpson waited upon the meeting, re valuation of his property at Carnarvon. Mr Gore, of Newry, attended for the ' purpose of trying to arrange for the formation of the road leading to that settlement. He was- informed 'that'the work would be done during the ensuing ' summer months. Messrs. Stace and Reid waited on the , meeting for the purpose of again requesting the Board to put a Bridge over Te , Matai lagoon. They were ' informed, that if the settlers interested, would contribute _ one-third of the cost the Board would make up the balance, and undertake the work' at once. The Collector was requested to prefa statement of his accounts for the year, "and haye 1 them audited by_ iLeeling, and laid before the next meeting. •The following accounts were passed for payment : — Secretary, salary, £16 8s ' 4id;'< Sullivan and Webb, Foxton, £4 18s ; postages and' exchanges, £6 4s 6d ; Bergensen, on account Anderson's cutting ? £17 8s 3d; Leonard, on account line, £25.; "Manawatu Times," £10 5s 6d ; George Richardson, balance clearing, £18 ; office rent to July Ist, £12^ 108 ; frosting, office windows, 12s 6d; Tanner, bush v falling, Karere J( £6r J

' The Inspector of Works was aiithorised.to call tenders for the undermentioned, works : — For ditching and formation on Bailey's line, Sandon ; approach to Manawatu Bridge, south side ; road clearing m. Kiwitea district ; road clearing m Bunnythorpe district ; clearing and 'formation on Campion's line, Carnarvon y clearing and formation on Jones* line, Carnarvon. • , The Board then adjourned until' Monday, the Ist October, at II a.m.
