On Friday, the 24th mat., the Manawatu Dramatic Club gave a performance at Feilding, m aid of the funds of the Benevolent Society of that town. The entertainment Was advertised to commence at 8 oclock, and precisely at that honr the curtain rose on the V.Happy: Pair," which was foUowed: hy* " One Hundred Thousand Pounds;" As we have already noticed the. performance of these pieces m Palmerston, we wiR not go over the same ground again, but wiR merelyremarkthattheactingwasin every way quite equal , to that on .the former occasion, m spite of this limited size of the stage, which prevented the scenerybeing changed. The hall was filled to overflowing .before, the .first piece com* menced, and we understand that many were unable to obtain admittance ; We may say that we have seldom; if ever, seen a more appreciative or better behaved audience/ ■■> , ■ / - "After the" conclusion -of ; f? One Hundred Thousand^ounds," when the curtain again rose to an encore; the Secretary andTreasurerofthe Benevolent Society appeared on this stage/;e^dently some- . what -to the. perf ormers' astonishment^ who retired precipitately^/ _^ The i Secretary made a short speech; thanking the audience for their support, and the M.D..C. for givmg the; entertainment (which yiie said . he ;thoiight would be no disgrace London Theatre) j and stated that:- the; receipts amounted to about £16/ The Treasurer then added a few words, confirming wha,t the, Secretary had said; and thanking the ladies who, played' the interludes.
