The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and* oonßrnieri, ay.d the statement of the Palmerston North. Local Board presented with auditor^* report, ■ ' Cr. -Linton proposed, and Cr. Jenssen seconded, "That the liabilities 6f the Local Board 'be taken over, and the auditors' report be received." tfbBBESPONDENCE . A letter was read .from -Cr. Gilbert? apologising for his unavoidable absence. From Colonial Secretary, "advising receipt of letter notifying the election of Mr Gr. M. Snelson/as" Mayor of Palmer ston North. From Town Clerk, Wainganui, laws used m Wanganui Borough Council. . From Overseer of Works imgjocal' Board, reporting completion or Hall's contract for footpaths on Square. From E. Warburton, re metalling of continuation of road on the South side of railway line. From T. E; Merritt re portrait of Mayor. f (jr.. Marsh proposed, and Cr. Beards seconded, " That the report of the subcommittee appointed to _, advise salary and duties of Town" Clerk, and likewise - salary of Overseer of Works, b^e received as read." Cr. StrMMEHHATS proposed, and Cr. Deabds seconded, " That the CouneS approves of the letter of the sub-cofik' mittee to the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, and requests the Mayor to* forward the same to the Chairman of > "that body." S«XM> mrehats seconded, " That the Clerk 4!}©tifyjo the Manager of the Bank of Australasia, that the Borough Council has taken over the liabilities of the larte Local Board." Cr. Linton proposed, and Cr. SxniMBBHiTS secondect, "That the Borough Council's account be kept m the Bank of Australasia, Palmerston North." Cr Linton proposed^ and Cr. MaksS seconded, " That Cr. ,' Jenssen be appointed Treasurer to the Council." Cr. Deabds proposed, 'and Cr. StTrf" mebhays seconded, " That Crs. Lintott and Manson countersign all cheques on behalf of the Borough." Cr. Jenssen proposed, and Cr MjibsH seconded, " That the amount of £47158 be passed by the Council to settle Chas. ' Hall's contract for the footpaths m the Square.'f Cr." Walton proposed, and! Cr. Sttmmebhayb seconded^ " That an adrertise-

inent be inserted m the 'Manawatu .: ;Tiines,' asking fpr applications from persons willing to fill, the office of Town Clerk, and also from a person suitable to act as Working Overseer: Applications to be sent m before Friday noon, August 31st." • ■ , Eesolved— -That the Mayor obfain the furniture necesfiary for the office. Cr. LiKTcif proposed^ and Cr Walt ton seconded, "That a corporate seal be obtained, with the words engraved on a > circle, • Palmerslon North Borough Council.'" Cr. Stjmmebhays proposed, and Cr: Mabsh. seconded, " That a committee of three, yiz.-^-Crs. Linton, Jenssen, and iUansdn, be requested to ascertain what unsold sections of Crown lands remain within the Borough, with a view to get the Government to grant them an endowment." . Cr. Deabds proppsed, and Cr. Linton seconded, " Thaic " Grs. Summerhays,' Jenssen, and Walton? be appointed a Public W6"rks Committee.'
