CHTJECH MEETING. * In accordance with a notice given m the Otaki Church on Sunday last, a meeting of those interested m Church music was held m the Library on' Wednesday evening. It was called for the purpose of choosing between the " New Zealand Hymnal" and Hymns "Ancient and Modern," ~as the permanent hymnal te be used m the Church servicesatOtaki. After a lengthy discussion "of the merits and faults of both- books, the voice of tlTe meeting decided m favor of " Hymns Ancient and. Modern." The meeting was well attended, and considerable interest was manifested m the subject. It is hoped that an improvement m the singing and attend-" ance at the Church may result from the meeting. j ' m SUICIDE. A blind native of the name of Hiri committed suicide on the night of Saturday last by hanging himself from the roof of his wtiare. N o reason can be discovered to account for his conduct. An inquriry will be held into the circumstances attending his death.
