The first Annual Meeting of the AH Saints' parishioners/ was held m the ichurch at Foxtpn,-on Tuesday, the 17th. instant* thsßeV. Francis SherxifE m the ' chair. - - ">'-'-. The ChairhXn m delivering his opening address, said that he had two oc three propositions to bring .before the meeting, but he -thought it would be, better to defer them until the formal part of the meeting- had been gone through. He would now request Mr Hulke to read the financial statement of the parish, which showed a satisfac- ' tbry state of affairs. Mr Sherriff then said he would nominate Mr Flower, who had kindly consented to act, as his Warden. Mr Hulke was 1 unanimously elected \ Parishioners' .Warden: :' The following* were elected Vestrymen : — Messrs J ~Beatty, J. Symons, Palmer, Coley/Whittem, Suck, F. Robinson, Junr.£' Easton, and Maclean. Mr Stevenson was elected Auditor for the present year. Mr Sherriff - said he thought that it was most desirable to hold services on some of the' greater, festivals of the Church, and he would like to hear some opinions expressed otf'the subject. After a short discussion it was agreed that m future service should be held oh Good Friday., as well -as on Christmas? Day. ' The Chairman then said he would! now bring forward the alteration from evening to morning service Mr Beatty was -of opinion that two services should' be held every Sunday, bs' some families outside the town were Tinable to come.in the winters' evenings, whilst from the town itself the attendance was often larger of an evening. Mr Maclean said two services were most desirable, and he thought That with the help of the lay reader both might be managed. -. - ' 'Mr Sherriff m reply said- he had jp. the summer .months to take the morning service "at Motoa, and then came Sunday school m the afternoon. The ' Bishop had told him that only one service would be required, <ix(^he would try to do his best to meet the wishes of the parish. * , • -Mr Flower said he was glad that the matter had been brought forward, as h# knew it was the general wish of the* parishioners that two^servicejsshouldbe held every Sunday. He' "thought that the Bishop should be communicated" -with on the subject. Mr Sherrief again said that he would do his best to meet their views. After "a vote^ of thanks to the choir, Mrs J. Symons for playing the harmonium, Mr'Bea'tty who conducted the. choir, and the, -teachers of the Sunday; school, the meeting separated. A* SERVICE OF SONG. "J •A Service of Song was held m the Methodist Chapel, on Tuesday evening* last, when a selection of hymns from 5 Sankey and Moody's Hymnal" were? given by the Foxton Tonic Sol Fa Assof ciation, the, object of the service being t<| raise funds to decrease the debt on thel chapel. The Chair was taken by the) Rev. F. Sherriff, who made a few appro* priate remarks. The singing of the lOOfchj Psfolm and a prayer by the Itev Mr Jones opened the service. Before each song; Mr Jones gave a stiort reading, illustra-" ting the song about to be sung. The" first song sung was, " That will be Heaven for -me." This was a duet, and well' rendered, by. a lady and gentleman. 2nd"' — Quartette and chorus, "There's a. light m the Valley." 3rd — A solo, duet, and chorus, "Give me the wings of - Faith," was well received. 4th — "The Life Boat." 5. The song » What shall t the Harvest^ be " was very well sung by two ladiesr 6. V Where hast thou Gleaned to-day P'£ a piece consisting of a question, answer! and chorus ; question was by a lady and gentleman, answer by two gentlemen; and the chorus by the Tame SaL-Efc Association. This was well sung and
seemed to be greatly appreciated . 7. fibn^" Yield not to Temptation" was sung by three young ladies who acV Quitted:, themselves very -'well' indeed considering it was the first timeithat theyrhadrsung m public. Tt 8. "Behold th J e Bridegroom cometh.'' ThisTsong was; not -sov.^eHr'^endei^dt. as it might have been owing -to some" alteration* having taken place at the last moment m the programme. r.The gems oi the evening were the quartette VThere l s a light in* /^[^aUejf 'Pafid^e -.Song life -Boat," both quartette . arid: song 4|eirig excellently sung and very? wefl ■received by the meeting. The anthem' ft Jerasalep/ my- gloripus Home,'' sugcessfulry ended the -selections. Too -'great upraise cdnnot be bestowed on the > young lady who presided at the harmonium, not; only for, the > excellent manner m which she played, but also for her powers as a vocalist. ,The Chaibman at the close proposed la_vote of thanks to Mr Jones and Mr Somers, for the manner m which the arr angements had been carried out. He said they ought to be much obliged to Mr 'Somers for the trouble he had taken. A vote of thanks was also passed to the Choir. After suitably responding -Mr JSomers said- the Association wanted more help m the class. He was sure tiraithe.Sol Fa system was the royal oroad to music. All who had voices, .and would like -toj learn how to use them, were very welcome to join. After Mr Jones had- given the Benediction, the audience separated, seemingly well 'pleased with the" T evening they had spent.
